Schofield Watch Company meets Kickstarter

About

    • To design any product that would be a success on Kickstarter.

    • Our product would need to have complete affinity to Schofield´s design language and narratives.

    • To research SWC branding, Ethos, Language, Message, Voice, Character and Values.

    • To find something that articulates your research, that a client would approve of and that fits the success stories on Kickstarter.

  • Through research into the company, it was very clear that the owner takes pride in the fact that all his products (mainly watches), always have a very unique storyline. Where attention to detail is where he is appaluded by his customers. We decided to design a modular chess set inspired by sci-fi design as a narrative - fitting well with his interests and a market untouched  but would do well in kickstarter.

Research was conducted into both Kickstarter and Schofield itself to ensure alignment amongst the two. To ensure that the `product would be successfully marketed and launched on the platform. Ensuring that it was not a saturated market target.

The process involved continuous and consistent interviewing with the CEO to ensure it would be a product of interest to again not only to users but of course the owner as well, making sure that is is an area he hadn´t touched upon `previously and failed, or one that does not speak to his Schofield narrative, that he prides himself on so much.

Working in a team, the development following diamond structure of iterative design, each of us used our strengths, and developed on Sketching, CAD, research, managing, and rendering to ensure that the product could be marketable on kickstarter (making a campaign video) as well as a product Spec. List detailed enough to be sent to our chosen manufacturer for materials that would be mot only affordable but supportive towards the narrative and of course the narrative.

This project taught me the importance of primary research and keeping the client close to best meet their needs and understanding, as well as collaborative teamwork. But also material research, and marketing working hand in hand in product design.
